Zirconia implant: made of Straumann Pure Ceramic porcelain – In Brazil

The Pure Ceramic zirconia implant from the Swiss company Straumann is a highly resistant and aesthetic option for replacing a natural tooth. The dental implant is made of metal-free ceramic material and has a white color, which is more similar to the roots of natural teeth. With this implant, it is possible to achieve an aesthetic and functional result that is far superior to metal implants. In addition, zirconia is a biocompatible and anti-allergic material, which minimizes the risk of rejection or complications. Therefore, the Pure Ceramic zirconia implant is a great choice for anyone looking for a beautiful, healthy smile.

The dental zirconia implant combined with the use of a pure 3D zirconia crown is the complete combination for metal-free oral rehabilitation. This treatment is especially suitable for people seeking excellence in aesthetic results, both when choosing dental implants and prostheses. In addition, it can be used for those patients who want to avoid the use of metals due to an allergic condition.

This option is gaining more and more ground as many patients want to eliminate the use of metal in their arches, either out of preference or even medical restrictions. There are currently several types of implant, each with its own characteristics, making it easier to choose according to the patient’s wishes. Let’s find out more about this very modern white implant option, which has allowed one version of the implant to be made of titanium.

Using a zirconia implant is an option in cases of allergies or major aesthetic needs

In addition to their natural color, Straumann Pure Ceramic implants have a surface developed with ZLA technology, similar to SLA, which favors and accelerates the osseointegration process, important for the success and stabilization of the implant.

The implant has the color of a natural tooth, because it has no sparkling reflections, and is very useful in cases of thin or atrophied gums. This makes it possible to obtain a natural-looking and aesthetically pleasing end result, especially for application in the anterior region (the most visible part of the arch).

In these images of a surgery carried out in our clinic with a zirconium dental implant, the aesthetic nature of the material can be seen. After initial gum healing, bone healing begins, which takes an average of 2 months. After this time, the porcelain crown can be fitted over the implant.

The best types of dental crowns to complement these ceramic implants are the Pure Porcelain Crown, and the translucent zirconia crown, both made in our in-house dental laboratory.

The zirconia implant: Straumann Pure ceramic has been extensively tested and proven

The Straumann Pure ceramic implant was subjected to rigorous scientific research before being introduced to the market. Each implant is mechanically tested before being delivered to the dentist. This quality can only be guaranteed by a world leader in scientific research and the development of solutions for implant dentistry.

What is the healing time for zirconia dental implants?

The recovery period for the Straumann Pure zirconia implant can vary, depending on several factors, including the patient’s oral health and the type of procedure performed.

After implant surgery, the gums around the implant site need time to recover. This usually takes two to four weeks, but can vary according to the patient’s individual response.

In addition, the process of osseointegration, which is when the bone fuses to the implant, is a crucial part of recovery. Specifically for the Straumann Zirconia implant, osseointegration can occur between 2 and 6 months, while in the case of the ZI implant (Neodent) it can take 3 to 6 months to fully integrate.

Remember, each case is unique and recovery time can vary. It is always important for us to examine the patient in order to offer personalized advice.

Conclusion

Implant dentist Dr. Roberto Markarian, director of the ImplArt dental clinic, is a member of the ITI – International Team for Implantology, an entity linked to Straumann that brings together the world’s best specialists for the development of new products and techniques.

We are among the clinics that use the most Zirconia Dental Implants in Brazil today, so we are used to carrying out such treatments.

Complete dental implants improve chewing, self-esteem and aesthetics

A complete dental implant is a fixed dental prosthesis on implants that makes up for the absence of all the teeth and improves chewing, speech and the look of the smile. It is called a protocol prosthesis and aims to re-establish the patient’s chewing function by inserting a dental implant in the upper or lower arch.

There are currently many types of protocol prosthesis to be installed on dental implants. Among them is translucent zirconia, which is the most modern option because it uses a computerized system for its execution, which improves precision, speeds up results and allows for superior aesthetics combined with high resistance.

The dental implant, on the other hand, can be made of titanium, or even ceramic, in Straumann‘s modern version, Pure Ceramic, or even the fast-healing titanium version, Slactive. There is also a national dental implant option, Neodent.

Complete dental implants to improve chewing and self-esteem

We are currently working with materials that are very comparable to natural teeth, both in terms of function and aesthetics. Patients who have lost their teeth for various reasons can have consequences that affect their health and well-being.

The absence of natural teeth (edentulism) hinders the ability to chew food, compromising the intake of essential nutrients for health and quality of life.

In addition, the person with total edentulism has their social life affected because they can’t smile and speak confidently in front of other people. As a result, they tend to become reclusive and have low self-esteem.

Undeniably, treatment with implants improves the patient’s quality of life, raising their self-esteem and allowing them to eat comfortably.

Advantages of a fixed prosthesis over a removable prosthesis

The fact that the prosthesis is fixed on implants makes it more comfortable and safer for the wearer to chew and speak than a mobile prosthesis, which can sometimes become maladjusted and move or even hurt.

Implants can be placed in different ways, as it varies according to the patient’s condition, especially if they have been edentulous for many years.

The most common method is to place six titanium implant pins in the upper jaw and four in the lower jaw. A temporary prosthesis is also always planned so that the patient doesn’t lose teeth.

After the healing period (which varies according to each case), dental prostheses can be attached to the implants for complete oral rehabilitation.

Titanium implants replace lost tooth roots, while prostheses are similar in shape, color and strength to natural dental crowns.

Learn more about the full-arch implant.

Natural result of implants for all teeth

The complete dental implant is very similar to natural human teeth. As a result, the patient’s smile is once again harmonious and difficult for other people to distinguish as a prosthesis.

Social interaction is restored and the patient has more confidence to smile and speak. When the patient receives a complete dental implant, they are able to chew food that they couldn’t chew before.

This is a way of ensuring a richer, more nutritious diet and that the food reaches the stomach properly prepared for digestion. ImplArt Odontologia specializes in dental implants, in titanium or ceramic, and modern computerized prostheses, Zirconia or Cerec porcelain, in addition to traditional methods.

Computer-guided implant surgery

Computer-guided implant surgery is certainly a technique that makes implant surgeries less invasive, precise and comfortable. Currently, the most modern materials are zirconia protocols and porcelain protocols on total implants.

Full arch implant with zirconia and porcelain prosthesis

This technique eliminates the need to make large cuts and sutures in the gums, making the post-operative period easier and the recovery faster.

The surgical guide acts as a template with indications of where the incisions should be made to place the dental implants. The surgical guide is custom-made according to the patient’s CT scan images, using a 3D printing method.

CT makes it possible to analyze the bone volume of all regions of the maxilla and mandible in order to select the best distribution of implants. In this way, it is also possible to choose the most suitable implants, taking length and diameter into account.

Another advantage of computer-guided implant surgery is that it helps to avoid surgical accidents, such as hitting delicate structures like nerve pathways.

GUIA CIRÚRGICO
Photo of a surgical guide for guided implant surgery

The patient can leave the office with temporary teeth or with the mobile prosthesis they were already wearing over the implants until the definitive prosthesis is finished (in 3 to 6 months), or with an immediate load in up to 72 hours.

Immediate loading ranges from the guided implant surgery for placing the implants to the fixing of the fixed dental prosthesis, usually of the dental protocol type. The patient can quickly speak, smile and eat safely (the masticatory effort should progress little by little, according to the surgeon’s instructions).

Learn more about total implants

Indications for a computer-guided implant surgery:

  • Any completely edentulous patient, whether recent or having worndentures for years, who has good bone availability is likely to be a good candidate for this technique.
  • Diabetic and/or hypertensive patients who generally have no indication for surgery or when it should be performed with caution due to bleeding. Computer-guided total implant placement surgery is, in principle, an excellent option for this patient, as bleeding is less with this technique.

See also this moving testimonial from a patient who had her whole mouth implanted.

Contraindications to guided surgery:

– Very advanced bone atrophy makes it impossible, in principle, to place dental implants. In some cases, this problem can be solved with another technique, bone grafting.

The entire procedure is carried out with great peace of mind and safety. Computer-guided implant surgery represents a major advance in dental surgery and our team at the ImplArt dental clinic, led by Dr. Roberto Markarian – a doctor in dental implants and a specialist in prosthetics – has full command of the techniques.

To find out if you could benefit from this technique, our team needs to carry out a thorough assessment of your case. Contact us and make an appointment at the ImplArt dental clinic to see other cases and photographs. We will be happy to try to solve your problem.

Full Arch implants: 11 stages of treatment

Learn about the stages of treatment for full arch implant rehabilitation. A full dental implant is a treatment designed to rebuild a new smile when all the teeth in an arch or mouth have been lost. This type of treatment is also popularly referred to as a protocol prosthesis or All on four dental implants, the latter if it involves 4 implants.

The ImplArt Dental Clinic has extensive expertise in full-arch implant treatments, using the best materials to produce the fixed prosthesis for full arch implants in its own dental laboratory, using state-of-the-art computerized techniques. In this way, we offer our patients a choice of different types of dental implants, with different healing times. In addition, patients can choose between 5 different types of fixed prosthesis to be fitted over their implants.

The most modern prostheses today are made of zirconia and use a computerized system to create these highly resistant and aesthetically pleasing prostheses. In addition to zirconia prostheses, there is also the option of zirconia implants.

Most full arch implant cases follow the following treatment steps:

1 – An individual assessment of the case for full arch/full mouth implantation is carried out

Considering the patient’s general and oral health, the volume and quality of bone in the mandible/maxilla, aesthetics, gum shape, among other aspects. To assess bone volume, radiological examinations such as panoramic radiography and computed tomography will be requested.

This stage also verifies the need for bone grafting prior to implant surgery, as well as the need for medical supervision if the patient has pre-existing diseases that could interfere with the success of dental implant rehabilitation.

2 – Treatment proposal

Depending on the information collected and the patient’s expectations, we will present some alternatives for full arch implant treatment with different stages of treatment, techniques and possible materials. The recommended types of dental implant will be presented according to the patient’s case, and they will be able to choose according to their preference. Today there are very modern dental implants and healing times can take between 1 and 6 months, depending on the type. Implants from the Swiss brand Straumann are the ones with the shortest healing times.

3 – Preparing the mouth

With the aim of eliminating sources of infection, such as professional cleaning, treatment of cavities, tooth extractions and periodontal scraping.

4 – Preparation and molds

For provisional prostheses for total implants. The ImplArt dental clinic takes digital impressions with intraoral scanners (without mass).

5 – Installation of full arch implants

Through simple and painless surgery, the implants that will support the fixed prosthesis are inserted. The surgery takes place in a doctor’s office and the patient can go home immediately afterwards. There are modalities with local anesthesia, or with intravenous sedation, if the patient prefers.

There is also the option of performing dental implant surgery using the computerized guided surgery technique.

This technique eliminates the need to make large cuts and sutures in the gums, making the post-operative period easier and the recovery quicker.

The surgical guide acts as a template with indications of where the incisions should be made to place the dental implants. The surgical guide is custom-made according to the patient’s CT scan images, using a 3D printing method.

6 – Installation of the temporary prosthesis

On the same day or after a few days. This is one of the most important stages of treatment. The prosthesis can be fixed or removable, depending on the case. The preference is for a fixed temporary prosthesis, unless this is technically impossible.

This first provisional prosthesis for total implants does not always meet all the requirements of aesthetics and function because it is made under adverse conditions, such as pre-existing teeth that make molding difficult. If necessary, we will make new prostheses.

7 – Waiting period

It takes between one and six months for the implants to integrate into the bone (osseointegration) and for the gums to heal.

protese total zirconia porcelana 50kb 1

8 – Start of the definitive prosthesis for total implants

If the implants are hidden under the gums, the first step is reopening surgery. This is a simple procedure that aims to expose the implants in the mouth. Then molds are made.

9 – Studies for the definitive prosthesis

For total implants, the aim is to find out which characteristics will be important in order to obtain the best aesthetics and functionality. When the characteristics of the final prosthesis are discussed, the color of the teeth, the shape of the teeth, the volume of the prosthesis and whether or not artificial gums are needed will be defined. The patient takes part in this process and will be able to see the stages of the treatment beforehand, as well as the final aesthetics. The dental implant prosthesis can be made of Zirconia, Porcelain or Resin, each with different characteristics, and the patient’s choice is made right at the start of treatment, so that planning is already carried out in anticipation of the definitive prosthesis.

10 – Delivery of the total implant prosthesis

With the approval of the patient and the dentist, the protocol prosthesis is then given as completed and all stages of the proposed treatment have been fulfilled.

11 – Total implant control and maintenance

Once all the treatment stages have been completed and the protocol prosthesis has been delivered, the patient should return every six months for a check-up and cleaning. Every twelve months we will request a panoramic radiograph to monitor the case internally. Even though the patient has had implants and, in many cases, has had all their natural teeth removed, they should still visit the dentist regularly every 6 months.

Implanting several teeth at the same time

The loss of multiple teeth can certainly affect your ability to chew, as well as the beauty of your smile. The best option for replacing multiple teeth is certainly the placement of a multi-tooth implant, i.e. the placement of several implants and the attachment of a dental prosthesis. A multi-tooth implant can also be called a total implant or a protocol prosthesis.

Fixed prosthesis or implants with several teeth provide good chewing ability and aesthetics

It is certainly recommended that implant surgery be carried out as soon as possible after tooth loss. This prevents bone atrophy (progressive bone loss) from occurring. Implants for 3 teeth, 4 teeth or more have some advantages over other types of treatment.

Advantages of multi-tooth implant rehabilitation

  • Neighboring teeth remain intact
  • The prosthesis is attached to the implants, offering comfort and safety for the user to chew, smile and speak
  • Ease of treatment, as the prosthetic components are prefabricated (approximately six sessions)
  • Not affected by cavities and infiltrations
  • In specific cases, it is possible to place the provisional prosthesis immediately after implant placement (immediate loading)
  • The installation of the implant prevents or stops the bone atrophy that normally occurs after tooth loss.

Implants with 3 teeth, 4 teeth or more have some advantages over other types of treatment with removable prostheses. As an alternative to placing several implants, we only have techniques that use common removable prostheses, without the use of implants. However, the indication is made after evaluating each case.

Should I have several teeth implanted or wear dentures?

Multi-tooth dental implants are an alternative to conventional dentures for those who have lost many or all of their teeth. They consist of placing metal pins, usually titanium, in the jawbone or maxilla, which serve as a support for fixed dental prostheses. These prostheses can be made of materials such as porcelain or zirconia, which mimic the appearance of natural teeth.

Multi-tooth dental implants have many advantages over conventional dentures, which are supported by the gums and can come loose or cause wounds. That’s why we’ve listed some of these advantages below:

Aesthetics, comfort and safety: Dental implants are more natural, comfortable and safe than dentures, which can move or fall out. They allow the patient to smile, speak and chew with more confidence and without fear of losing the prosthesis.

Preservation of bone against resorption: Dental implants preserve the bone structure of the mouth, preventing the atrophy that occurs after tooth loss. Bone atrophy can cause problems such as gum resorption, changes to the shape of the face, difficulty adapting dentures and the loss of other teeth.

Improved chewing function: In addition, dental implants allow for better chewing, speech and taste perception. Conventional dentures can interfere with chewing, making digestion and nutrition difficult. They can also hinder speech, causing noises or difficulty in pronunciation. In addition, they can cover the palate, reducing taste sensitivity.

Durability and resistance: Dental implants are considered to be more durable and resistant to cavities and infiltrations than dentures. They are made of materials that do not wear out or deteriorate over time. They are also easier to clean, as they don’t need to be removed for cleaning.

Conclusions on getting several teeth implanted at ImplArt Dentistry Clinic

The loss of multiple teeth can affect chewing and the aesthetics of the smile. The ideal solution is to place dental implants to replace several teeth, allowing a fixed prosthesis to be attached.

Planning for dental implants – how is it done by the dentist

Improve your quality of life and self-esteem with dental implants

Dental implants must be planned by a specialist in order to achieve the desired success. Initially, when studying dental implants, examinations are carried out in order to:

What resources can dentists use to plan implants?

It is important to explain that the dentist uses photos, examinations and clinical assessment in an integrated manner for precise dental implant planning.

  1. Initial Photos: Photos of the mouth and smile at the start of treatment capture the oral anatomy and help to visualize the general condition of the mouth, including the position of adjacent teeth and facial aesthetics.
  2. Radiographic examinations: Panoramic radiographs and CT scans also offer a three-dimensional view, allowing bone quality to be assessed, anatomical structures to be identified and pathologies to be detected.
  3. Clinical Evaluation: Detailed intraoral examinations reveal more in-depth periodontal conditions, the presence of infections and specific characteristics of the oral tissue, providing crucial information for implant success.
  4. Precise measurements: Using specific measurement software, the professional assesses the thickness and height of the available bone, thus ensuring the proper selection of the implant.
  5. Virtual Planning: Specialized software allows for virtual simulations, making it easier to choose the ideal position for the implants, considering aesthetics and function.

The combination of these elements also allows the dentist to carry out personalized planning, increasing the predictability and success of the dental implant procedure.

Planning is important for successful dental implant treatment

Dental implants are performed in the dentist’s office under local anesthesia, with care and attention from the implant dentist. Even those who are afraid of the dentist can have bone implants without any problem. Titanium implants are placed inside the bone and you have to wait three to six months for osseointeraction (calcification of the implant in the bone).

Once healing has taken place, the patient can wear a temporary prosthesis which allows them to better maintain their daily activities and also prevents the process of bone resorption (when the area is left without teeth for a long time, it can lose bone volume). Also during this period, the dentist makes the molds for the fixed dental prosthesis that will be placed after the implants have osseointegrated.

Temporary prosthesis for dental implants – planning

Despite the initial discomfort due to the implants and also the temporary prosthesis, the patient should wear it most of the time to facilitate adaptation. At first, the patient may feel nauseous, produce more saliva than usual and their pronunciation may also be strange. Of course, any discomfort in the meantime is temporary and must be overcome in order to achieve the best possible result.

However, in some cases, the dentist may opt to carry out the immediate loading procedure, in which the temporary prosthesis is fixed immediately after the implants are placed. This takes a maximum of 72 hours and, like all treatments, must be planned in advance to avoid problems in the future.

See specific techniques for implanting the front tooth.

Permanent fixed prosthesis for implants

Finally, a permanent prosthesis will be fixed a few months after the implants have healed and the person will experience a significant improvement in chewing, quality of life and the aesthetics of their smile. The materials for the permanent prosthesis can also be chosen by the patient together with the dentist.

There are several options for implant materials, especially in the case of full arches, the so-called protocol prosthesis. Contact our clinic or make an appointment if you have any questions about the treatment, average price or techniques. We’ll be happy to help you!

Rapid immediate loading of dental implants

Immediate loading of dental implants

Rapid (immediate) loading is possible thanks to scientific advances. Today it is possible, in selected cases, to enter the office without teeth and leave at the end of the day with all the teeth fixed on dental implants with immediate loading. This technology gives patients great satisfaction due to the rapid results.

Immediate rapid loading can be planned for individual dental implants, or even total dental implants, the so-called protocol prosthesis. Its feasibility should be assessed in consultation with the implant dentist.

When to load implants quickly:

Implants with this rapid loading technique can be used in the following cases:

  • For total implants (replacement of dentures with all teeth fixed)
  • Several teeth (usually teeth or tooth roots with periodontal disease, badly decayed teeth as well as old dentures)
  • For a single tooth (mainly in the anterior region)
  • Fixed prosthesis of some teeth (in selected cases)

The rapid loading technique can be indicated for a single tooth or for all teeth.

Indications for immediate rapid loading dental implants

The dental implant technique with immediate loading can be carried out when bone quantity and quality are normal and also when occlusal habits are favorable for the procedure to be carried out so as not to overload the site with chewing.

Therefore, the immediate loading technique depends on certain conditions of the patient’s dental arch and general oral health. The conditions, planning requirements and feasibility of the implant with immediate loading are assessed individually in consultation. Not all cases can be immediately loaded.

immediate rapid implant loading

Therefore, the dental implant technique with immediate loading can be indicated for the following cases: people with a completely toothless lower arch, a full arch with a few teeth, single or individual teeth in the anterior region of the mouth, and in some cases fixed prostheses on a few teeth, depending on the region. In all cases and situations, the main course of action is to consult your dentist and carry out a full assessment to determine what and how will be done.

Only this assessment can determine whether an immediately loaded dental implant is indicated or whether another rehabilitation procedure would provide a better result. The technique is not always used in all cases, as it depends on the patient having some specific and favorable conditions that are assessed in consultation.

We must therefore plan your case carefully in order to achieve the expected success. The procedure aims to install a temporary prosthesis immediately after the implants have been placed. The time it takes to make the final prosthesis will be discussed with the dentist and varies from case to case.

Types of dental implants

If your concern is to complete your dental implant treatment as soon as possible, you can use fast-healing implants. The Swiss company Straumann is responsible for producing the most modern dental implants that allow rapid healing. Under ideal conditions, without bone grafting and good locking, these implants normally heal in between 1 and 2 months. So if your concern is time, opt for Straumann implants. These implants can be used for single implants or total implants.

In addition to titanium implants, there are also ceramic implants, an option for those who want a metal-free implant treatment.

Types of dentures

The type of dental crown or type of prosthesis to be used in your treatment should certainly also be evaluated, in order to shorten its execution time. If possible, opt for computerized crowns or prostheses. These modern prosthesis models use 3D tools that speed up the execution time and offer greater quality and naturalness. This includes the Translucent Zirconia Prosthesis, the single zirconia crown or the fixed zirconia prosthesis. As well as the Cerec porcelain crown.

At the ImplArt dental clinic, we have all the structure to carry out your procedure with peace of mind, so come in for an assessment and we’ll analyze whether your case can be solved with this technique. Contact us by WhatsApp (11) 3262-4750, we’ll be happy to talk to you and answer any questions you may have.
